About Boardman & Company

Boardman & Company was founded by Mahmood Firouzbakht, a life-long resident of Cambridge, Massachusetts. Mahmood attended Cambridge public schools, Harvard College, and Northeastern University School of Law. Mahmood practiced commercial real estate law at the prominent Boston law firm of Nixon Peabody LLP. His law practice was focused on complex real estate transactions, land use and permitting, and affordable housing.

After nine years at Nixon Peabody, Mahmood decided to leverage the skills he developed as a lawyer – negotiation, management, collaboration and more – and apply them to real estate development.

His first project, 15 Boardman Street in Cambridge, went so well that he decided to name his company after it.

In the past decade, Boardman & Company has developed an impressive portfolio of high-end residential properties in Cambridge, Boston and the surrounding towns. Exquisite restoration projects, new construction, single family and multi-family homes - over 100,000 square feet in all. Along the way, Boardman has won neighborhood historic preservation awards, the respect of our partners and the praise of discriminating buyers.

Our approach

Every detail of every project matters to us. We examine how each design decision will affect the people who live there. After all, these are living spaces. Everything must work on both a practical and aesthetic level.

We insist on the highest quality materials and craftsmanship, and strive to make each home green-rated and energy efficient.

We also carefully consider how each home and will fit into its neighborhood and community.

Integrity is our foundation. We built our reputation on always doing the right thing - for our customers and partners. It’s not always easy. But for us, it is the only way.

What they’re saying

“It was a privilege to work with Mahmood and his team. When I first expressed an interest in the property, Mahmoud was very enthusiastic and eager to show and explain this state of the art, 100% energy efficient home. He went over every detail of the new energy efficient systems and explained what materials were used in the whole construction process. He was always available, very kind and helpful in answering all my questions before and after the sale of my home. As someone who is concerned about the environment and interested in conserving energy, it was heartening to meet a developer who has the intention of eliminating our carbon footprint.”

Holly Crary, CAMBRIDGE

“Mahmood is the consummate professional. He always keeps his word, follows through, and does everything the right way. Besides all that, he’s fun to work with and an absolute delight.”

GAIL ROBERTS, BROKER, GAIL ROBERTS, ED FEIJO & TEAM

“I am pleased to inform you that you have been selected to receive and award for the restoration of the historic Daniel Stone house at 147 Prospect Street. On behalf of the Historical Commission, I extend my congratulations and appreciation for your efforts.”

CHARLES M. SULLIVAN, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, CAMBRIDGE HISTORICAL COMMISSION

“To make it as a developer, you’ve got to wear a lot of hats. You have to be good with people, understand the market, be super organized, have good design sense and, oh yeah, it doesn’t hurt to have a law degree either. That’s Mahmood. The complete package.”
